AWE 2013 has come to a close. Thanks to the media blitz generated by Google Glass, there is a feeling that AR — and especially video eyewear — has finally emerged from the trough of disillusionment and are heading up the slope enlightenment. With Steve Mann appearing as one of the headlining keynote speakers, and the video eyewear installation that travelled from New York, eyewear systems are very hot. No doubt the successful Kickstarter launches of both Meta in the AR space, and especially of Oculus Rift in the VR space … even the departure of Valve’s Jeri Ellsworth to launch her own AR eyewear company, have all contributed to the hype.

But perhaps no other company has quite capitalized on the publicity of Google Glass so much as our own Telepathy.

At the AWE afterparty, Danielle Von Lehman, Esq., New York attorney and comic genius, sometimes referred to on this blog simply as “my girlfriend,” borrowed a pair of Google Glass from my friend Anselm Hook, Director of R&D at Dekko, and co-founder of San Francisco’s MakerLab. She gave her impromptu review, one take of which is featured at left (in Glass’ defense, she was wearing them in the severely handicapped borrowed-mode). Later that evening, with a small group of friends in our hotel room, at the afterparty-after-the-afterparty, we took the photo shown at the top of this article.
